1st Annual Pink Day - 2005

This year, Marid Industries Limited made a decision to get involved with Breast Cancer Awareness month - October.

The theme for their fundraiser is usually around a "Pink Day" or "Casual Day." Because attire at Marid is usually casual, we put our heads together to come up with a different idea for our fundraiser. And so it was decided that "Pajama Day" would be our theme. What would be better than spending the day in your comfy flannel PJ's!

A cheque was sent to Breast Cancer Foundation for $988.00, this exceeded any expectations that we had for this fundraiser!! We send out a "Thank You" to all of you who made a donation. A special thanks to all of the site guys who went out of their way to drop off monies collected on their sites.

We would like to make this an annual event. We talked with many employees who had their own stories of how they have been affected by cancer. So we believe it is important for us to continue to do our part.

And again, Thank You

CANSTRUCTION 2005

This year marked the second annual Canstruction food drive in support of Feed Nova Scotia. Canstruction is a competition between companies in the construction industry in Nova Scotia to design and build structures made entirely of cans using only clear tape & wire for connecting materials. After judging, the structures are de-"Can"-structed and all of the food is donated to Feed Nova Scotia.

2005 marked the 50th anniversary of the MacDonald bridge and it seemed an appropriate project for a steel fabrication and erection company.

We "broke ground" at 8:00 AM on October 19 in the Mic Mac Mall with the last can placed at 5:45 by a very tired but satisfied team. The finished product covered our entire 10'x10' site, stood 5'-6" high at the towers and had a clear span of 7'. We included the Halifax and Dartmouth approaches as well as Tufts Cove stacks and a Can-tainer ship in the harbor. All of the structures stayed on display in the mall until Saturday night when we took them apart, and sent the cans to Feed Nova Scotia.

Our efforts earned Marid the top prize: Juror's Favorite as well as a People's Choice award. Our entry will be judged against winners from cities across North America. The real winner however was Feed Nova Scotia-with this event putting 19,424kg of food (about 5 week's worth) on Feed Nova Scotia's shelves as well as $36,000 in cash.

We would especially like to thank and commend Connie and Dave for supporting this worthwhile cause.
